- The Progressive era took place from the 1890's to the 1920's. It was known as a time of "intense social and political reform aimed at making progress toward a better society." (kahn academy). At the time, reformers wanted to use the power of the federal government to terminate unfair and unethical business operations, decrease corruption, and act against the negative social effects of industrialization. Furthermore, protections for consumers and employees were strengthened. During this era women also gained the right to vote.
